Whooeee, I'm as pleased as a pup with two tails
45 to 46 grns of ADI 2209 pushing a 129 gn Hornady SST gave me a 1MOA, and a 0.75 MOA groups.
These loads are 1gn over recommended, but this has always been the way with this rifle. It like me to belt em out hard. The crony was shot by my mate last week, so I don't know exactly how hard, but It should be around 2700f/s. that's about as far as you can go with an old military action without over stressing things.
Now all I gotta do is load some more to make sure they are consistent.
I scanned a couple of target, but can't get to load. Back shortly

That center ring (X ring) is 3/4 inch. The range 100 mts (110yds)

Great shooting Swanie. Not too shabby for iron sights.
Those Sweds sure do shoot.

Sorry to hear about the kaput crony, it sucks when that happens.

Your ADI 2209 is real close to/same as(?) our 4350 powders, which I love in my .30-06 loads. It's also real close to VV N-150 which I've had exceptional luck with in .308 Win. with 168 gr. bullets in long barreled (25"+) rifles .

I wish it were open sights. No this rifle is a sportarised M38 and is set up with 4-12 Tasco. I also have a M96 that is original.

As someone once said: "there are two kind of people. Those that have shot their crony, and those that are going to"

Thats still great shooting, scope or not. Is that the original barrel on the M38?

Yep, had about 1500 rounds through it, and as you can see, it's still going strong. I got it in new condition (just good luck) because I needed a cheap rifle for a pig hunting trip.
Now you couldn't tear it away from me It's a 1941 manufactured Husquvana.

Default Re: What powders do you use?

I reload 45 acp, 38 super, 9mm Luger, 44 mag, 454 Casull. And for rifles I reload for 6.5x55, 308 win, 30-06, 7.62x54r, 8x57, 32 Win. Spl, 303 Brit and 45-70.

For the 45 acps I have two 1911s one is a Para P14-45 and the other is one I made from a aluminum frame 1911 with an officers model top end. I used a fully supported chamber with a ramp barrel from Para Ord. Milled the frame for the barrel and used a guide rod. This is a very sweet pistol. I have large hands so the grips are normal size but the top end is officers model size. And the aluminum frame make it so light that it doesn't pull our pants down when you carry it. Both the P14 45 and my creation get Bullseye behind 200 grain semi wadcutter or hollow points.

The 38 super is for my race gun. It's a full race 1911 with a comp. It won't run with factory ammo. It needs reloads to just run the gun. I use 10.5 grains of AA7 behind a 124 grain bullet. This gives me about 1400 fps. It has a fully supported chamber so there is no worry of blowing out the case. But if I am shooting at a range that has an over hang I leave black smoke marks on the roof from the comp. This is my most favorite pistol to shoot. It will do two hole groups. The first hole is from the round being chambered by hand. The next hole is from all the other rounds being chambered by the gun so they are all the same. I really love shooting that pistol.

The 9mm Luger is for a Browning HP. I have done a lot of work on this beast. It has the Cylinder and Slide wide trigger that does away with the godawful magazine safety. I also put in the Cylinder and Slide Light Trigger Pull Sear Lever. This is by far and away the best thing you can add to a High Power. It greatly reduces the trigger pull. Here is a link:
http://www.cylinder-slide.com/index....rodshow&ref=44
I recommend that everybody with a high power get one of these and install it. You do need to drill a hole in the slide , in the correct spot so don't even think about doing it unless you have a mill drill setup. There are some things I am not to happy with this pistol. I tend to have two to three inch groups at twenty five yards. I also have about 15 thousandths of an inch clearance between the base of the ramp and the bar in the frame. This gives about fifteen thousandths of "spring" in the barrel. I am seriously contemplating brazing the ramp on the barrel and them mill it to a better fit. I know a lot of smiths tig weld and mill but I don't have a tig setup ( wish I did I used to use one a lot at work at the Dept of Agriculture lab in Albany CA. I used to make custom lab equipment there, very cool job ) But I think braze will work just fine. I fixed a op rod on a Garand that kept popping out with braze and reshaping. That rod has worked for years now. When I reload for the 9mm I use AA7 basically because I have it for the 38 super and it seems to work well. If memory serves I use about 7.5 grains behind 124 grain bullet. Same bullet I use in the 38 super.

The 44m mag is a big gun with a 7 and a half inch barrel. My wife is five foot nothing and she loves to hold it up and say "Feel lucky Punck?" I haven't reloaded, or shot, this pistol in awhile. But I use 22 grains of IMR 4227 behind a 240 grain bullet. If I was to go hunting with it I would use a heavier bullet and a different powder but this works well for punching paper.

The 454 Casull, Taurus Raging Bull with a six and a half inch barrel, is my newest pistol. I bought it just before I came down with cancer. ( I beat it with Gods help and am back on the mend after five years) I loaded some light loads with 7 grains of bullseye behind a 240 grain bullet but didn't like it to much. I am very much open to ideas as to how to get this thing to shoot without disabling my arm for a week after shooting. I usually am not recoil sensitive but when I first fired this beast I had some factory 300 grain hunting loads and my arm hurt from the center of the spine to the end of my fingers for over a week. I'm sure I need to work on how I am holding this pistol so I can release the recoil properly. Reloading the 454 Casull is interesting. When it first came out the loads were mostly duplex and triplex loads. Way beyond me. I want just one powder not three that I have to load in a certain order and seat the bullet so that the powders don't move. That scares me. So if anybody has good data for loads of the 454 I'm all ears.

The rifles all get the same powder IMR 4895. I have tubs of the stuff and when I do that I get exceptable accuracy and no hassles with what do I do with this almost empty can of powder problems. The only exception is the 45-70. Sometimes I use black powder for my Sharps falling block or IMR 3031 for the H&R Handi-Rifle in 45-70. I shoot 405 grain soft nose Remington's out of it pushed by 49 grains of IMR 3031. This beats me up pretty good and gives me great accuracy. I love that rifle and round. If you can't kill it with one shot, no matter what it is in North America, with a soft nose 405 grain bullet stepping out at around 1675 you shouldn't be shooting at it

Well I have a number of other rifles and pistols but I don't reload for them yet. One pistol I am dieing to get more trigger time with is a Beretta 3040 cougar. I have put about ten rounds through it and didn't have time for any more. I also have a bunch of muzzle loaders that are a real hoot to shoot but there is only so much time. I live in Montana and see guys going by with Elk, Deer and Bear in the back of their trucks. I'm just itching to get my body back from the cancer so I can go kill me something to eat. For some reason when you kill and dress it yourself it just tastes better.

I'm starting to get a real desire for the Marlin 1895 cowboy with the 26 inch barrel and 9 rounds of 45-70. I really don't think I will need nine rounds, unless a bunch coyotes show up ( I wonder what coyotes taste like? I have eaten dog in China, and it was GOOD, but never coyotes. Maybe I'll get a chance to find out) But Wall Mart has the Marlin 1896 Cowboy cheap so I might just take a run into town tomorrow and order it.
