Thanks for the info Pops...... has been added to my new "library"...

Of course you and Delta would be my "first" stop for questions...

It may be a little bit before I get one...cause now...Im befuddled and needing to decide either a classic old style Range gun or kentucky long gun...etc...and I now remember seeing a lot of newer hunting BP rifles in pawn shops...etc....while winder
shoppin...

Im kinda leanin to a newer make, so I can use a scope...you know...?

With my eyes and only a 100 yard range near that I like...maybe the scope kind would be good. But Im thinking and dreaming and I appreciate all the advice.

Just a while a go Pops...I read your help on other place about "ball in the palm"..
covered just enough with powder...seemed like an "experienced" rule of thumb

thanks,

1shot

The possibles bag is a given, yes.

I'm also trying to resist mentioning that I build and sell powder horns.

I don't do vasectomies.

I tried that on the rodeo bulls in the pasture across the road and wasn't very well received.

I had an American friend, now passed away who served as an Infantry Capt. in VN. He used to point at his own face and say 'Ugly, not stupid'.

RIP Martin Mandell, 'Big boys toys' indeed. I remember you, and your dollar jar.

1shot,
forgive my jumping into this kinda late, but I would suggest that you consider old-style traditional vs. new-style non-traditional, and the advantages and dis-advants of each. I'd like to define traditional as a state-of-the-art, 1863 Springfield Rifled Musket. Non-traditional could be any of the new, modern configurations, in-line, etc.

Wow, that in itself could be an entirely new thread, though the first thing that comes to mind is that in a traditional configuration, b/p subs are not a reliable propellant due to ignition problems.

However, non-traditional 'b/p' firearms generally have a wide selection of ready-made projectiles, do they not?

Smooth-bore, or rifled?

Calibre?

B/P is not as widely available in some areas as the sub propellants.

B/P smoke smells better than 777 or P-dex smoke !

Get the idea? Try to figure out what kind of experience you are seeking. It will help simplify the decision process.

If you find that you want to go full traditional, I'd be happy to assist in any manner possible.

Another way of saying, "your mama didn't raise no fools," right Pops?

Strangely enough, a few years back I had a female student who rode Brahmas on the rodeo circuit to earn part of her living. What was most amazing (besides the fact that she was female) was that she was just a slip of a girl, probably not more than 90 lbs soaking wet, and a most attractive young lady to boot. She did walk with a slight limp though.
