| Birdshot and Buckshot If it has a smooth bore and it fires shot downrange, this is the place to talk about it and compare notes with others who love the sport of shotgunning. |

I got a S&W Model 1000 Super 12 semi-auto shotgun in a trade a couple weeks back, and I can't find much information on it. I don't think S&W make them anymore; they were probably outsourced in the first place.
The barrel on this one was cut off at 24" (it seems random to me, too), so it's just a cylinder bore now, and it took some significant cleaning--a full ounce of Hoppe's No. 9--to get the thing to cycle when I first brought it home. I have been working ~60 hours a week since I got it, so I haven't properly tried it out yet. Has anyone had or used one before? Is there anything I should be aware of or on the lookout for? |

I wonder if that 24" cut off is by chance. Look for British proof marks.
We have a 24" barrel limit, and many are cut down to that. Its not impossible a batch bought at auction made their way across the water.

The barrel was not professionally cut. And I didn't find any proof marks on it other than those from original manufacture, and that was in Japan.
I planned to be able to try it out this afternoon, but it's been snowing out since before dawn, and the daylight is long gone, so I never took it outside. I have learned that I can get a replacement barrel for it, but that replacement is made by Mossberg. Are Mossberg barrels also made in Japan? I was under the impression that Mossbergs were made in the USA, but I could very well be wrong (it happens a lot). |

I well remember the moment I was told Winchesters were being made in Japan. I was shocked. I doubt the thousands of US servicemen killed or wounded in the pacific war would be impressed.
