I'm willing to say "thank you for your military service", and send my sincere condolences to his family.....
Beyond that, anything I have to say about Murtha is probably better left unsaid at this moment.

I've been very vocal in my disgust with Murtha for his comments about the Marines in the Haditha incident. In retrospect I believe I was too harsh. My response was an emotional reaction to what I thought I heard.

What he said was that because of stress the Marines killed in cold blood. We all heard it as the Marines were cold blooded killers. In all fairness I don't believe that is the same thing although literally that is how it might be interpreted. It would have been so much better though had he waited for investigations to be completed before he commented.

As a former Marine I believe we dishonor our Corps and it's ideals when we refuse to accept the cold hard facts of what we've done wrong. We believe we are the finest fighting organization in the world. This is not achieved by merely saying we are but by our deeds.

Though I didn't agree with most of his political views he was a strong advocate for our military and veterans. In light of that and his long service to his country I believe the man is worthy of being honored.

Sadness for his family, but there goes another corrupt elected official who felt that he was better than the common man. We're all on that same inevitable path, it's how you conduct yourself that matters. Honesty and trustworthiness all add up to the measure of a man. Murtha failed in his later years and thought he was above us all. TJ
